Critical Trust Factors in Job Hunting:

While exploring these opportunities, it's crucial to evaluate the trustworthiness of potential employers. The latest 2024 Edelman Trust Barometer  reveals that businesses generally earn more trust than governments or media. However, maintaining a healthy skepticism is key.

Public Perception Trends:

The Edelman Trust Barometer is based on a survey, encompassing 32,000 individuals worldwide. It indicates a longstanding trend of declining trust in governments and media, with only 61% of people in 21 countries trusting businesses – a rise from 48% in 2012. This increase is partly due to companies focusing on social and environmental causes.

Cautionary Tales:

Despite this rise in trust, it's important to remain vigilant. Recall incidents like the Volkswagen emissions scandal, which remind us that even well-regarded businesses can falter. People place equal trust in peers and scientists, yet remain skeptical of established leaders.

Your Job Search Strategy:

As you seek your next role, research your potential employer's financial stability and their commitment to meaningful causes. Look beyond financial incentives; find a purpose in your work. A great question to pose to yourself and potential employers is, “Why do you work here?”

In case you needed to hear this, don’t ask ChatGPT for a romantic relationship with a Girlfriend…

OpenAI’s newly launched GPT store on January 10th is going great except for all the dang girlfriend bots that keep appearing. While girlfriend bots are acceptable there are rules they need to follow.

The company bans GPTs “dedicated to fostering romantic companionship”. Don’t worry, The Coffee Badger GPT is not interested in a romantic relationship but you can ask the Coffee Badger what type of coffee you should make for your girlfriend.

If you or someone you know is building a GPT dedicated to fostering a romantic relationship, you should stop now.

Recruiting Fails:

To candidates: On behalf of all recruiters who make you jump through hoops to apply for a job, then ghost you or quickly decline you - I am sorry.

To Recruiters: On the other side of a resume is someone’s dreams. You are part of a candidate’s hopes and dreams. Never forget that.
