From Celebrity Lists to EV Woes: This Week's Snarky Roundup

“My resume is just a list of things I never really want to do again”

On this day, in November 30th of 1872, the world’s first international soccer match took place. It took place in Hamilton Crescent in Partick, Scotland. It marked the birth of international soccer as we know it today. Two teams, Scotland and England, faced off in what would become the world's first international soccer match.

Job News

Forbes Drops 30 Under 30: World Pauses to Ask, "Who?" 🤔

Forbes just unleashed its annual 30 Under 30 list for 2024, and the world collectively shrugged. 🤷‍♂️ Apparently, they evaluated over 11,000 candidates using metrics like funding, revenue, and potential, leaving us wondering if it's a popularity contest for the rich and famous.

Get ready for a star-studded lineup featuring Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, and Lamar Jackson! Because, you know, we were all eagerly waiting for their groundbreaking contributions to society.

But hey, let's not forget the illustrious history of this list. Remember when fraudsters like Elizabeth Holmes and Sam Bankman-Fried graced it? Good times!

Now, with an acute focus on AI, we're left pondering if they should get back to work instead of chasing meaningless titles. Robots are taking over, after all! 🤖

Overheard at coffee ☕️

🚗 Mary Barra vs. Elon Musk 🚀

In one corner, we have Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors, and in the other corner, the electrifying Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla. It's like comparing a golf cart to a rocket ship, but let's break it down…

🔌 Charging Speed:

Mary: "Our EVs charge... eventually."

Elon: "Tesla chargers make your coffee before you're done."

🚗 Autonomy:

Mary: "Cruise will drive you around, but maybe don't take a nap."

Elon: "Autopilot? More like Autobrilliant!"

💰 Stock Price:

Mary: "Our stock is still figuring out how to climb stairs."

Elon: "Tesla stock goes up like a SpaceX rocket!"

🌍 Vision:

Mary: "We'll be carbon-neutral by 2040... maybe."

Elon: "Mars, here we come! And we're taking Earth with us."

Both are tackling the EV game, but Elon's Tesla has a bit of a head start. Maybe Mary and GM are taking it slow to savor the journey, or maybe they just need Ludicrous Mode turned on!

For the record, I have never drove or ridden in a Tesla or a GM Cruise for that matter. In fact, I just sold my 2008 RAV4.

More news on GM and Mary’s unhappiness with their slow pace HERE.

PS - In case you didn’t hear, GM’s CEO (Kyle Vogt) of their Cruise robo car quit after a crash of one of its robotaxis. Slow down out there people.

Recruiting Fails: Candidates responding to 2021 LinkedIn messages from recruiters about that 2021 are as effective as Covid masks were in 2021. But don’t worry candidates, a good recruiter will still message you back. Our own Tay Tay Nelson’s inbox is full of 2021 responses.

Recruiters' rollercoaster: Silent in hiring booms, talkative in lulls. Cheers to the clueless candidates circling back 2 years later. And +1 to the recruiters who take their calls.
